QSN mourns the passing of Grahame William Rogers born on 10 Jan. 1932 on 04 Sep. 2025.
The website MyTributes records the following details from the Toowoomba Chronicle 13 Sep. 2025.
“Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, School Teacher and Principal, Conservationist, Volunteer, Friend, and Mentor to many.”
A celebration of life was held on 1st October 2025 at St George’s Anglican Church, Crows Nest.
The tribute acknowledged his wife Donalda (nee Maskall) and their family.
Grahame and Donalda warmly welcomed QSN to their house on 4 Feb. 2023 in QSN’s search for the papers of the lapsed Stock Routes Coalition. He wrote “I have largely withdrawn from active engagements – my mind is no longer as sharp as it once was. I have just recently had a big cleanout of my files, and got rid of a lot of the stock route stuff, but I still have some books and maps, and electronic photos and records”.
These records are progressively being uploaded to QSN, to Grahame’s approval.
Grahame also wrote: “We are very happy with the current situation of the stock routes in Qld. They are still being looked after, and it was mainly the long haul of [Stock Route] Coalition lobbying that got this result.”
The price of an effective stock route network however is eternal vigilance. It is depressing to read on the Queensland Government’s website that long-term (static) grazing is one of the major uses of the stock route network. “Today, it is mainly used for moving stock, pasture for emergency agistment and long-term grazing.”
QSN welcomes the recent (2024- ) involvement of the Azadi group in advocating for the protection of the network and the continuation of Grahame Rogers’s legacy.
