Richmond Birdwing Citizen Science at Samford Valley

A great way to celebrating International Day for Biological Diversity, In collaboration with Samford Eco Corridor.
Join us for a special Biodiversity Collage workshop celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity — a global day recognised by the United Nations to raise awareness of the vital role biodiversity plays in sustaining life on Earth and supporting healthy communities.
This community event is part of the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Nature Oasis project, an citizen conservation initiative restoring habitat for native wildlife and strengthening ecological connectivity in the Samford region.
The session will begin with a short introduction to the Richmond birdwing butterfly, one of Australia’s most spectacular yet threatened butterflies. Once common across South East Queensland, this species has declined significantly due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
Through the Biodiversity Puzzle, participants will discover how restoring native habitat — can help rebuild ecological corridors that allow wildlife to survive and move across landscapes.
Delivered in partnership with the Samford Ecological Corridor, this event also aims to inspire local landowners and community members to become part of the solution by contributing to habitat restoration and biodiversity-friendly land management.
The Samford Eco‑Corridor is a community‑driven ecological restoration and habitat project in the Samford Parklands area of Samford Valley, Queensland (near Brisbane). It’s not just a patch of bush — it’s a purposeful revegetation and wildlife habitat corridor that’s been created by local volunteers and organisations to restore native vegetation, improve biodiversity and provide a natural area that benefits both wildlife and people.
By connecting global biodiversity science with local conservation action, the workshop builds community understanding and empowers participants to take practical steps to support nature where they live.
Whether you are new to biodiversity or already engaged in conservation, you will leave with a clearer big-picture understanding and a renewed sense of connection, responsibility and agency in caring for the living world we are part of.
No prior knowledge is required — just curiosity and openness.
