Earthwatch Institute
Earthwatch is a global not-for-profit environmental organisation that brings individuals from all walks of life together with world-class scientists for the good of the planet. Earthwatch Australia has been partnering with business, trusts, foundations and government in citizen science for more than 45 years and is one of the world’s largest private funders of independent scientific field research.
Our Mission
To empower people to save the natural world.
We engage people worldwide
We work from several offices, located in the United States, United Kingdom, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and Brazil. We work with the general public, scientists, communities, educators, students, and corporate fellows. Our projects take place in more than forty countries around the globe.
We enable scientific field research
Together with leading scientists, we create impactful field research experiences that facilitate and disseminate world-class scientific research. We measure our success through outcomes such as peer-reviewed publications produced by our researchers and our outreach events that engage wider audiences with our work.
We promote education
We provide transformational learning experiences that promote environmentally sustainable action. We work with educators to help them bring their experiences back to the classroom to foster new generations of environmental leaders.
We create a sustainable environment
We work with businesses and nonprofit organisations. We enable them to implement sustainable policies, processes, and practices that promote environmental responsibility both in and out of the office.
We work to sustain wildlife populations and to improve the quality and quantity of habitats and ecosystems. We work to preserve our cultural heritage and improve livelihoods worldwide.
We make a tangible and significant contribution to conventions, agendas, management plans, development plans and government policies. We do this regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Our Values
Inclusive
We believe it is essential that people participate in solving the environmental challenges we face.
Objective
We assure that independent research is at the core of our work and that its outcomes determine our goals and priorities.
Passionate
We are passionate about the opportunity we have to make a meaningful impact on people and the planet.
Empowering
We seek to inspire people, businesses, and communities with experiences, knowledge, and tools that enable them to take action.
Responsible
We act in a manner that respects and protects the well-being of people and the environment, including our staff, researchers, volunteers and the places we work.
Through Earthwatch Australia’s citizen science programs and wide-reaching partnerships, Earthwatch engages people nationally and worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment.
