Mining lease objections review – Information session
20 November @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm AEST
The Queensland Law Reform Commission is holding a forum on Wednesday 20 November from 11.30am – 12.30pm at BMO in Dalby.
Interested community members are invited to attend either in person or online.
QLRC has been tasked with reviewing and making recommendations on the processes for deciding contested mining leases and associated environmental authority applications. The review is set to run for two years, with their final report and recommendations due to be provided to the Government by 30 June 2025. They have released 2 consultation papers, Reimagining decision-making processes for Queensland mining and Valuing the perspectives of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, which present proposals to reform the process for mining leases and associated environmental authorities.
QLRC is also now starting the second stage of its review, which is to consider whether any changes they recommend to the mining lease processes should also apply to applications for resource production tenures (and their associated environmental authorities) under the following Acts:
- Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004
- Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2009
- Geothermal Energy Act 2010.
It will release a separate consultation paper about these other resource production tenures in mid-November 2024. To coincide with the release of this paper it is planning to visit regional areas to consult with stakeholders who are involved with and affected by petroleum and gas projects.
There is no need to RSVP for in-person attendance. However, if you are wishing to attend virtually, please register by using the QR code in the attached invitation or by accessing this link: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams.
