Dr Sean Foley B.Sc.(Hons.); PhD; FRGS and Member of The Royal Society of Queensland is an international expert in aircraft noise. He has written to QSN: “…the effects of aircraft noise are so obviously a public health issue, studiously being ignored by the industry and government …”.

Dr Foley is a local contact for the Australia-wide network (CAAA), and has also been co-opted on to the Board of UECNA, the peak EU aircraft noise pollution organisation. QSN is pleased to open this page on aircraft noise to give further exposure to his independent analysis.

Melbourne Airport

The recent approval of a third runway at Melbourne airport – staunchly opposed by most afflicted communities for some years – included a condition they conduct a 20-year health impact study, with a TOR due in late 2025.  Previous airport health impact studies in Australia have been deceptive exercises ignoring the medical science. The Airport now has an opportunity to prepare a high quality draft TOR and to secure the services of genuinely independent consultants to assist it.

Brisbane Flight Path

Dr Foley has forwarded an authoritative paper on aircraft noise problems. He has written “I’m on the committee of the Brisbane Flight Path Community Alliance (BFPCA). My contribution to our work has been to estimate the extent and severity of aircraft noise on Brisbane residents and, more recently, make an analysis of aircraft noise metrics.

“I’ve attached a briefing note I submitted to the Senate Inquiry into the impacts of aircraft noise as part of BFPCA’s submission to the inquiry.”
